The smaller ships look alright, but something about the art direction they went with for capital ships just feels like it's a bit boring and missing something.Ībsolutely not saying the game is gonna be bad or anything like that, still excited for it. Like, the Hiigaran Carrier in Homeworld 2 was an interesting shape that had all sorts of buoys, wings, fins, raised sections, bridges and towers, antenna and different shaped details etc to add interest, but these just seem quite boring and uninspired in comparison? They don't seem to have much to break up the shape and add interest in the way of extra details, they're just.overly boxy and flat without much more to it? It's like they're lacking something and come across as a bit lifeless compared to what things looked like in the previous games, that carrier especially - it's pretty much just a big slab with a bit of angularity to the front. Looking at the screenshots on the store page, some of those capital ship designs seem a little disappointing. Pretty much nothing in the film has any value to the franchise, and they should honestly decanonize those films somehow. Wait, why do we even need a Death Star when you can just Hyper an asteroid through a planet? Why is the Rebellion bothering with space fighters, instead start building hyper-torpedoes launched from corvette's that can quickly enter and leave combat. Why bother blowing up any of the Death Stars internally? Just strap some engines off an old Cruiser to an asteroid, point it at the DS, and hyperspace through it. Having smaller ships hyperspace through dreadnoughts breaks that base conceit of the world. It follows fantasy & ww2 rules, not sci fi rules. The Holdo Maneuver confirms he just thinks it's generic Sci Fi and follows normal Sci Fi rules, instead of understanding it as a fantasy story set in a WW2 setting, that's only dressed up to look like it's in space. That much is clear, Rian Johnson clearly has no idea what Star Wars even is in terms of genre and theme, and he crapped the bed with that film completely. The only disappointment here is for how thoughtfully TLJ was put together, none of that intelligence was respected in the last outing. This feels like a much smarter move than the anticipated prequel-like lightsaber battle, which is not only cliche but props up Luke's criticisms about what the Jedi order became and how it fell. He ultimately forces Ren to waste time in a set piece battle and allow the Resistance to flee, which is his true objective. One example is Luke properly demonstrating how a light side jedi fights lightsaber battles- using knowledge and defense.
#Homeworld 3 e3 2021 movie
I remember being disappointed at the lack of space combat- especially now with a Resistance fleet! But since then I've come to appreciate a lot of things this movie does regarding characters and small moments. Over time I've come to appreciate more and more how TLJ subverts expectations to say something interesting with our characters. (And yes, it's also prophecy nonsense in the SW Prequels, and to some degree the Matrix trilogy). It steals the power of the Higaarans making their own way, and makes it unneccesary prophecy nonsense. The Homneworld 2 plot could have been about finding ancient relics of the progenitors, based on secrets guarded by the Bentusi, which would lead to the discovery of the hypergate system. Nothing about a "magical ancient space core" these refugees managed to smuggle out from under a galactic emperor, on the one ship that happened to have engine trouble and set down on Kharak? Thanks, I hate it.
#Homeworld 3 e3 2021 manual
In the game manual for HW1, they literally say that copied the design of the hyperspace core on the Khar Toba and scaled it up to be Mothership sized. And the "three cores" idea just didn't interest me at all, since it retconns a bunch of HW1. It's just foreshadowing through exposition rather than good storytelling. I really find "prophecy" tropes to be really lazy writing.
